The Johnson County Home + Remodeling Show got cancelled just two days before it opened in Overland Park thanks to the pandemic. This weekend it finally returns. Many of the vendors are hoping it will kick start their businesses again. Prepping for a big remodeling show is no joke to the vendors setting up shop. Cutting, trimming and making their display front look nice means everything. For some, like Eco Spa KC vendor Rob Kenley, it’s less about the display and more about the show happening at all. “75% of our hot tub sales are through the home shows,” Kenley said. Last year as they were prepping for the Overland Park show, COVID-19 shut down everything. “They told us to go home about two days before,” Kenley said. The news was devastating for Eco Spa KC’s business. At least Kenley had a place to relax while trying to figure out what to do next. “Yeah luckily we had a couple laying around,” Kenley said. The Overland Park Home Show Manager Shannon Nathe is excited for the turnout at this year’s rejuvenated home show. More than 150 vendors have a display this year. Samantha Juchem was setting up the display for Ecovole Solar on Thursday. “There’s going to be a lot of traffic and so that’s really important to us,” Juchem said. Many of the vendors say the show not happening last year caused a lot of uncertainty. The show returning to the Overland Park Convention Center this weekend is at least a small return to normal. “We still obviously have a long way to go but it’s a step in the right direction,” Kenley said. The show says ticket sales are as high as they’ve ever been heading into the weekend. Every booth is planned to be stationed at least 10 feet apart. The Johnson County Home + Remodeling Show opens Friday and run through Sunday night.
